Tri-State Farm and Food Conference

November 14, 2015 – Huntington, WV

The Tri-State Farm & Food Conference has been met with incredible enthusiasm from folks in the greater Huntington area. We are striving for even more enthusiasm as we gear up for the 2015 conference.
After a two year hiatus, we are happy to be gathering again in the Tri-State. The conference’s aim is to revolutionize the food-shed to help farmers and food producers run viable businesses through agricultural education, in the 50 mile radius of Huntington. This effort reaches an area that encompasses 15 counties located throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Kentucky.
We hope that you will take advantage of the experts we have and that you will form relationships that will continue after the conference. We are fortunate to have so many gifted people who are always happy to help farmers and food producers in anyway they can.

Fresh cheese can be made with many different cultures to cause the milk to curdle.  Nancy will show us how to use liquid nigari, a byproduct of her company's salt making process, to make fresh cheeses such as ricotta and goat cheese (it can also be used to make tofu).  Easy for any cook to accomplish in under 30 minutes.

Nancy recently offered this program at the Heritage Harvest Festival at Monticello in Virginia and had forty participants...WOW...that's a lot of people excited about making their own cheese!!  We are excited to have her in our shop and to carry the wonderful West Virginia made salt products from J.Q. Dickinson Saltworks!

Save $20 with early bird registration by August 8!

Registration is now open for the West Virginia Urban Ag Conference to be held September 18-19.  The two-day conference will focus on issues relating to urban and small-scale agriculture and homesteading and will be held on the campus of WV State University in Institute, near Charleston.  The conference is a collaboration between WVU Extension, WVSU Extension, the WV Department of Agriculture, and the Capitol Conservation District, with help from the WV Farmers Market Association, the WV Food and Farm Coalition, and NRCS.  The conference can be a great way to earn continuing education credits for Master Gardeners.

The workshop schedule includes horticulture production, small-scale livestock, conservation, homesteading, marketing, community gardens, and more.  Check out the full conference schedule.  We are also pleased to add featured speakers this year, thanks to some great partnerships and sponsorships.

Conference registration includes lunch both days and the local foods dinner on Friday night, as well as all workshops and sessions.  (The first 100 people that register for the rain barrel workshops go home with a complete rain barrel....for free!)  The conference will feature a farmer’s market, vendor trade-show, and more.  The conference will feature a local foods banquet prepared by renowned Charleston restaurant Bridge Road Bistro (included in the cost) and lunches prepared with local, fresh ingredients by popular Charleston restaurants.

Register before August 8 to get the early-bird rate of $60!  Beginning August 9, the conference fee raises to $80.  After August 23, the late-registration fee will be $100.  Registration ends on September 6.  So register early!  Single day registrations are also available.
